This embraces 5 key aims to :
• grow the economy
• meet housing demand and need and provide community facilities
• promote improved infrastructure and connectivity
• encourage sustainable development, and
• conserve and enhance the built environment.
The main priorities for the SDP are :
• To continue the delivery of development areas identified in existing Structure Plans
• To link the development strategy to the availability and provision of supporting infrastructure
• To provide additional land to allow sustainable economic development
• To promote a sustainable pattern of development
The MIR sets out preferred and alternative strategic policy approaches to sustainable development, infrastructure, transportation, housing, economic development, environment and resources.
It identifies 8 strategic growth areas - Edinburgh Central, Edinburgh Waterfront, West Edinburgh, South East Edinburgh, East Coast Corridor, Midlothian Borders Corridor and West Lothian Corridor. Committed development, future development proposals and preferred and alternative (where appropriate) approaches are set out for each area.
The Main Issues Report has been prepared by SESplan and its six partner authorities with considerable input from other stakeholders such as Scottish Government, Key Agencies, Homes for Scotland and comments received during an earlier consultation exercise in Spring 2009.
It is accompanied by 2 other consultation documents, a Monitoring Statement and Interim Environmental Report. Also available are 4 Technical Notes on Economy, Transport, Green Environment and Housing and a draft Equalities and Human Rights Impact Assessment.
