Shaping the Future of Edinburgh and South East Scotland 2012 -2032

The Strategic Development Plan (SDP) will establish how much land is needed for housing, business and other development and where it should be located for the next 20 years.

The SDP will set the context for Local Development Plans, which together guide decisions on planning applications. The SDP will also inform and co-ordinate decisions on the strategic infrastructure investment The SDP will replace existing Structure Plans, when approved.

SESplan is preparing a Strategic Development Plan for Edinburgh and South East Scotland. It covers The City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, the southern part of Fife, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian and will play an important role in providing the planning framework for future sustainable economic growth across the SESplan area.

In May 2010 the Main Issues Report (MIR) was published. It set out the context and challenges facing the SESplan area around the key areas of economy, population and housing, transport and infrastructure, environment, resources and climate change. We asked for your views on these important issues which will affect the future of your area. Over 200 responses were received during the MIR Consultation period (May-August 2010). These were used to shape, inform and develop the Proposed Plan.
